Periodontal plastic procedures

Root coverage beforeRoot coverage after

Plastic surgical procedures involving a connective tissue graft from the palate and a coronally advanced flap were used in this case to cover an exposed root surface above provisional crown on the UL1. At the same time the original margin of the crown was altered to allow a new margin to be prepared at a different level. Such procedures are delicate and, sometimes, unpredictable but can often be used to solve otherwise difficult problems.

Connective tissue grafts

These are a modern variation of the full thickness gingival graft. The palatal mucosa is split to allow removal of the inner aspect of the tissue to act as a graft, which prevents removal of a thick piece of tissue. This allows for quicker healing and less patient discomfort.
